BELWIDIC: Believers Without Dichotomy Foundation, with the theme “we are one people
funded by PeaceDirect and supported by Plateau State Youth council, Plateau Muslim youth movement, and Displaced women and children foundation in Plateau State.
The program is to run for three months ( Dec – February), it  is aimed at addressing the ethno-religious inequalities and discriminations in the state and the nation at large. As you know BELWIDIC is all about creating and promoting balance so the project basically promulgates the message that we are different but that our differences are not the problem but our lack of respect for these differences.

We are very different people with different temperaments, family backgrounds or upbringing, different cultures, tribes or ethnicities, different religions or beliefs different paradigms, but to live out our lives to the fullest and enjoy what this earth holds for us we must learn to respect each others differences. The key is not synchronization to become one but to harmonize that is the beauty of life and as we learn to respect these differences and live harmoniously we become like husbands and wives that become one.

As you can see we just finished the one day capacity building workshop where we had youths and people come from Bassa, Barkin ladi and Jos North people from these very different and conflicting ethno-religious backgrounds come together to build peace and relationships, the participants were super excited to be a part of this project.

A Glimpse of the participants

A participant posed a question to us towards the end of the programme, he said and I quote “what are you doing or what plans or arrangements are you putting in place to see that this our coming together to interact goes beyond this event or gathering and doesn’t just end here”

The moment Questions were asked
what touched me the more and made me see the seriousness of the question was when all the other participants over 270 of them (remember we budgeted for 100), agreed with him and turned to us for an answer, right there and then I saw youths that were yarning for fellowship, togetherness something more than just the workshop or the 3 months activities, for me that was the turning point the point of change to be precise.

For me I believe they came to an understanding that they have been hurting themselves, treading on the path of violence and separation, they talked about how they used to live peacefully together, visit each other and sometimes even sleep over. I saw them relishing on those moments but now they are separated and can hardly go into each other’s territory freely without the fear of something going wrong. I saw feelings of disappointment and regrets, and the desire for things to go back the way the used to be, desire for togetherness again, in fact this inspired a new project idea for us at BELWIDIC.

The project ended with a recording of the audio and video of a unity song where we had artists from Bassa, Barkin ladi and Jos North coming together in weeks of coaching, rehearsals and studio recording and then a video was shot for the unity song.
